Modest Mouse

SkeletonCrewI’ve been listening a lot lately to the new Modest Mouse album, “We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank,” and I love it. Some especially good tracks are Dashboard, Parting of the Sensory, Fire It Up, and Spitting Venom. You should definitely check out the album.

I didn’t want to wait to have it shipped to me, so I got mine from iTunes, which let me download a PDF of the album art. It was really neat, and inspired me to do this drawing at work. It’s kind of a combination of a concept from the album title and the tentacle-ish artwork in the CD booklet. …and, honestly, who doesn’t love pirate ships? Anyone? No, I didn’t think so.

You may also notice that I’m posting more often. I realized I was getting really backed up, and the sketches I’ve been doing at work have been piling up. Unless I post them on here, they don’t really get showcased anywhere, so I figured this was the best way to show them to all of you. Hope you’re enjoying them! Let me know if you are. The more feedback I get, the more likely I am to do more of this. I thrive on feedback. Gimme!

Tentacles + Pirates = Sexy.

Very cool!

However, I think the Kraaken just wants the figurehead for his very own :-) Hmmm… That would be a little too close to Pinocchio tentacle-porn, now wouldn’t it? Yikes, I need to bleach my brain now!

I’ve been noticing a drawing at work theme … how do you manage to get away with that? ::laughing::

Or is everyone just so amazed by the talent that is Marty they cover for you so they can see what you’ve done when you finish?

….well, Angel, when you work the 3-11pm shift at a 24-hour copy shop at the Express desk, you tend to end up with a lot of free time on your hands. …and since they put a stop to my underground Monkey Fight Club, I figured I’d draw instead. It helps when everyone you work with likes you, and likes looking through your sketchbook, too.

Who *wouldn’t* want that figurehead for themselves, Pete? Human, Kraken, Sperm Whale…. they all wanted it. The Kraken had to kill the Sperm Whale before it could take the figurehead for itself. …..so when that whale corpse covered in giant sucker-marks washes ashore, we’ll all know why. Wooden mermaids are irresistable, and that’s a fact.
